You are a gnome.

Your dream is to buy a house of your very own.

You finally found the perfect place, but you don't have nearly enough money to buy it!

Then Death, aka, the Grim Reaper, shows up, and gives you an opportunity.

Definitely for other reasons and not because the Grim Reaper is lazy, they will pay you to bring them souls that you collect after killing villagers.

Of course you immediately accept the request, already picturing buying your house.

There are two complications though:

Once collected, the souls will begin to "spoil".  Better quality souls will take longer to spoil as well as fetch a better price from the Grim Reaper, but  they have the caveat of making your journey back to the Grim Reaper harder.  Why is that?

Complication number 2: the villagers have guardian spirits that will exact their wrath on you as you try to bring the souls back to the Grim Reaper.  They will attack you with a bullet hell in the form of a bunch of mini spirits, and change the environment to be harder to get through the higher quality of souls you are carrying.

But it's no matter!  You will do anything if it means buying your own little Gnome Home, even if it means killing and suffering the wrath of angry spirits.

How to Play:

Pause: Q on the keyboard, or BACK on an XBOX 360 Controller or equivalent.  This will pause the game, as well as give a reminder of these controls.

Interact/Collect: The Left Mouse Click or ENTER key, and the "A" button on an XBOX 360 Controller, or equivalent.   Use this to talk to the Grim Reaper, pick up a soul, or advance dialogue.

Jump: Space Key, or the  "Y" button on an XBOX 360 Controller or equivalent.  Can double jump, which is important for getting back to the Grim Reaper.

Attack: Left Shift or Enter Key, Right Mouse Click, or the "X" button on an XBOX 360 Controller or equivalent.

You have a health status, money counter, and soul jar.  The soul jar can only be filled so much, and you should make sure to watch it to keep track of how your souls are doing.

Earn enough money to buy the house to win the game!

Music is not my strong suit, and with little time remaining I decided not to include it.

very cute game! the art style and animations where great! i really like the cozy style and the small detail of the souls getting spoiled so it creates a bigger challenge for the player. Good Job, very well done!

only thing i would add is maybe a more accesible UI or indication of controls to access main menu, i had trouble exiting the game. (downloaded it on mac and works great other wise)

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it!  I definitely agree, the pause menu was kind of a very last minute thing, if I'd given myself more time I probably would have made it a button in the corner of the screen or something.

No worries, thats totally understandable, you did great!

Very cute game! It was definitely a skill issue on my end, couldn’t make it to the reaper with any souls in tact. But I did appreciate seeing the easier levels as the time got less. I like the concept! And I hope the lil gnome found his home

Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed my game!  I actually originally intended to make the ghost follow you around, but it ended up feeling annoying to me while trying to platform / survive the bullet hell, so I just stuck it where it is now haha

cool game.
small typo, the first "you're dream" should be "your dream"

Thanks for the catch!  Thought you were referring to something in the game at first and I was confused why I wasn't seeing it haha

the game is super hard because once you get to that platformer, you have to go really fast in order to get through the platformer. at this point I think it is just better for the gnome to it on its own.

Thanks for the feedback!  I do wish I'd included some easier platforms among the ones that show up, I'd attempted to have a range of difficulty but I agree they kind of all ended up being a bit difficult with the time limits of the souls.  I hope you still enjoyed playing though!
